In September and October, LIFE LINES responded to the challenge of the Portuguese Society of Ecology (SPECO) and of the Invasoras.PT group to carry out activities within the scope of Ecology Day and 1st National Week on Invasive Species, respectively.
As part of the celebrations of the Ecology Day, which was celebrated on 14th of September, LIFE LINES, through the team from the University of Évora, organized a workshop on Fauna Roadkills Records. The workshop took place online, issued from the University of Évora, on the 15th of September. Fourteen people rated this activity as very useful, as this testimony is an example: “These workshops are important ways to publicize the project and lead others to try to implement similar projects elsewhere. So to repeat”.
The participation of LIFE LINES in the 1st National Week on Invasive Species took place in two ways: with an online awareness action and by the removal of plants of Cortaderia selloana in the city of Évora.
The online awareness action took place on 15th of October under the theme “Control of invasive flora species in the LIFE LINES project” intending to disclose the actions of the LIFE LINES project within the scope of the control of invasive exotic tree species throughout the linear infrastructures (national roads and eco-trails). Sixteen people attended this initiative.
The removal action of Cortaderia selloana in three identified locations in the city of Évora started on October 15th and the work is still ongoing. The initiative was proposed by the team of the University of Évora to the Municipality of Évora, which promptly accepted the challenge and sent operational staff to carry out the work. This action also has the support of LIFE STOP Cortaderia, by providing guidelines for the removal of plants. This action will be highlighted in other new as soon as the works are completed.
