The
European Researchers’ Night took place in the last Friday,
august 27th. This is an initiative launched in 2005, currently
biennial, funded by the European Commission in the framework of Marie
Curie Actions, with the aim of celebrating Science and bringing
researchers and citizens closer together (source:

In Portugal, the initiative took place in several cities. At Évora one of the places with activities was the Praça do Giraldo , in the heart of the city. Several of institutions attended at this initiative like the University of Évora. The Unit of Biology Conservation, Department of Biology, was present with two projects (LIFE LINES and POPCONNECT). We talked about the projects with all who visited us, and three activities were carried out:
– “APP LIFE LINES: Come and get them all!” (Game to simulate the use of APP LIFE LINES for registration of road killed animals);
– “Catch me if you can! Animal Tracking ”(Demonstration of radiotelemetry to track wild animals and study their movements, periods of activity and find their shelters).
– “Bats at night in the city” (Searching for the bat species that inhabit the Évora city center, through methods used by the researchers).
