The LIFE LINES project (LIFE14 NAT / PT / 001081) will organize the Workshop Promotion of Biodiversity in Linear Infrastructures. This event proposes to present a set of solutions implemented and tested within the scope of the project regarding the control of invasive plants and promotion of native flora, with reference technical requirements, conditions of applicability, demonstrated effectiveness and cost-benefit ratio. The workshop will be divided into two modules Module I – Control of Invasive Plants and Module II – Promotion of Native Flora, which will take place online on May 6th and 13th, respectively, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.
Module I presents a set of solutions to promote the control of invasive exotic flora, providing a working basis for evaluating management and control alternatives along roads and in an urban context. The program will include the introduction to the LIFE LINES Project by Pedro Salgueiro from the University of Évora and Graça Garcia from Infraestruturas de Portugal; the presentation of invasive flora in linear infrastructures: impacts and control by Paula Canha, Leonor Pires and Francisco de Sousa da Branco de Cal; and the perspective of the LIFELINES project by Mariana P. Fernandes from the University of Évora
Module II focuses on solutions for the management of marginal areas associated with infrastructures, aiming to provide a working base for the promotion of native flora in different linear infrastructures. The program will include an introduction to the LIFE LINES Project by Pedro Salgueiro from the University of Évora; management and promotion of plant diversity in linear infrastructures by Mariana P. Fernandes of the University of Évora; how to propagate species of native flora by Anabela F. Belo from the University of Évora; and the presentation of the nursery of Marca-ADL – A nursery of native plants on a human scale by Marta Mattioli of Marca ADL.
