Yesterday, 30th of July of 2019, another very important milestone was reached in the LIFE LINES project. The launch of the LIFE LINES APP! This mobile application, which is one of the many outputs of the project, has been developed by Infraestruturas de Portugal, with the support of the University of Évora, and aims to enable the registration of road kill animals.
Collisions of wild animals are an increasingly common nature conservation problem and may even endanger the safety of drivers. Understanding what drives an animal to cross the road is crucial to everyone’s safety. By using this APP you will not only be contributing to the collection of information about road kill animals, but also helping to save wildlife and contribute to their safety.
After validation by the LIFE LINES project team, this data will be part of a national fauna road kill database and will be used for scientific purposes, such as modelling data to implement wildlife mortality reduction measures and promoting the creation of a Green Infrastructure to support the increase and conservation of biodiversity. In addition, their contribution could also safeguard road safety as it will help to identify wildlife mortality hotspots.
So actively collaborate with the LIFE LINES project by installing the App and send us your records whenever you have the opportunity!*
When using the APP to report a note, be aware of your safety. Do not use this application while driving or performing any dangerous maneuvers. Be on the lookout for vehicles on the road when you stop your vehicle and when you leave it to record a roadkilled animal. Safety is a priority over everything else!
*The mobile application is only available to be used in Portugal
