Invasive plants

On the 29th day of December of 2015, the Flora team from the University of Évora and the team from MARCA-ADL went to the deactivated railway- Montemor-o-Novo’s Ecotrail- to identify the intervention places for the eradication of exotic flora species with posterior recovery. A total of 3 places were indentified for possible intervention: one full of Acacia sp. (thorn tree), other with Arundo donax (giant cane) and Ailanthus altissima (tree of Heaven), and the third one with Ailanthus altissima and Robinia pseudoacacia (black locust). Taking into consideration the autochthon vegetation surrounding this places, a possibility is that, after the eradication of the exotic species, give support to the native species such as Osyris alba, Crataegus monogyna, Rhamnus alaternus, Laurus nobilis and Ruscus aculeatus, and the introduction of Arbutus unedo. These activities are part of the A1 action which is the preparatory step for the implementarion of the C8 action (Mitigation measures and potentiation in roads from the Montemor-o-Novo county), together with the D3 action (Monitorization/evaluation of the effects/impacts of the conservation measures) and with E8 action (Young volunteering program and institutional from MARCA).
